Using Zoom to Record a Podcast Interview

Zoom is a great tool for video conferencing and remote meetings. While you can also use it to record remote podcast interviews, there are a few things you should configure in order to ensure the audio you’re capturing is of the highest quality.

Zoom Settings to Configure for Podcast Interviews

Here are some settings to check out to ensure you get the best quality Zoom recording. If any of these options do not appear in Settings for your Zoom desktop app, you may need to first enable them within Account Settings on the web. I included support links in the list below for more info.

Note: All parties should check for updates to the Zoom to make sure everyone is on the latest version before starting.

Zoom Website

Enable the following under Personal > Settings > In Meeting (Advanced):

  1. Allow users to select original sound in their client settings

Enable the following under Personal > Settings > Recording:

  1. Local recording

  2. Hosts can give participants the permission to record locally

Zoom Desktop Application

Enable the following in Zoom Settings > Recording:

  1. Record a separate audio file for each participant

    1. Note: You MUST record to your local computer to receive separate audio tracks.

  2. Optimize for 3rd party video editor

Enable the following in Zoom Settings > Audio > Advanced:

  1. Show in-meeting option to "Enable Original Sound" from microphone
